The India Youth Fund is a window of UN-Habitat's Global Youth Fund. It is a grant awarded to youth-led groups based in urban areas. It is is aimed at helping them conceive, implement and execute community-based interventions in focus areas such as livelihoods, health, gender equality and empowerment, and urban planning among others.
The grants are extremely competitive, and applicant organisations must submit to an extremely rigorous screening process. Each year, a number of grantees are chosen on the basis of their innovative solutions to urban conditions, the sustainability of their ideas and the scope for their engagement with youth. Since 2013, twelve young groups have received the India Youth Fund Grant, in locations as diverse as Downtown Mumbai and Dimapur, Nagaland, and for themes as varied as gender empowerment, wildlife conflict resolution, solid waste management and primary healthcare provision.
